Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC took part in the IV International Exhibition and VIII Nuclear Power Plant Summit NPPES-2022 on June 8-9 2022 in Istanbul. NPPES-2022 is the largest business platform in the field of nuclear technology and industry in the Middle East and North Africa region. AKKUYU NUCLEAR management representatives presented the most up-to-date information on the implementation of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey construction project. On the first day of the summit, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Director for Construction and Production Organization Denis Sezemin spoke about the preliminary results of each power unit construction and answered questions from the media.
AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Board of Directors Deputy Chairman Anton Dedusenko spoke at NPPES-2022 opening ceremony, “Since the groundbreaking ceremony for the first Akkuyu NPP power unit back in 2018, nuclear energy has made a significant progress in the world. During this period, the first concrete has been poured at 24 nuclear power units in different countries, and half of them are being built by Rosatom companies. Nuclear energy has received a long-awaited recognition as an environmentally friendly and sustainable source of energy. Akkuyu NPP project creates a large-scale positive effect in Turkey. This is one of the largest direct foreign investments, which will bring billions of dollars to the Turkish economy. In addition, the project contributes to the growth of the region population, development of employment, infrastructure and many other areas of social life. Akkuyu NPP project has gained a very high pace at this stage. More than 20,000 people work on the site every day, bringing us closer to reaching of Turkey's most important goal to produce sustainable nuclear energy in the country”.
At the Summit, Rosatom State Atomiс Energy Corporation and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, together with the main contractor for the construction of Akkuyu NPP, the joint venture TITAN2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ, held a seminar for potential project suppliers. During the event, speakers shared information about Rosatom procurement system, the work on localizing products in the Republic of Turkey, and practical examples of collaboration with Turkish companies. Akkuyu NPP construction project is attracting more and more new partners who took the opportunity to ask their questions about the possibility of participating in procurement procedures carried out during the construction of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey.
Over the two days, the seminar was attended by more than 200 NPPES-2022 delegates, representatives of Turkish and foreign supplier companies and nuclear industry enterprises. It also included bilateral B2B meetings with procurement specialists from AKKUYU NUCLEAR and TITAN2 IC İÇTAŞ İNŞAAT ANONİM ŞİRKETİ.
Rosatom State Corporation and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC took part in the NPPES-2022 exposition. This year, the stand was decorated with drawings by the children of the employees working at the Akkuyu NPP construction site, presenting their impressions after visiting the site with tours. This visual solution emphasized the role of the Akkuyu NPP as a platform for the clean energy generation for the sake of Turkey's future. At a specially designated part of the booth, visitors of the exhibition could release their imagination and leave their wishes about how they would like to see the future of nuclear energy in Turkey. There was also a photo zone near the stand, where visitors of the exhibition could take pictures wearing the uniform of a construction crane operator or a builder of the first nuclear power plant in Turkey.
At the stand, the visitors could learn about Rosatom activities and international projects using a multilingual touch panel. Rosatom and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC specialists presented to the visitors technological solutions used in the Akkuyu NPP project, including the VVER-1200 generation 3+ reactor technology, features of safety systems, and the overall progress of the project.
The NPPES-2022 exposition featured stands of companies from Turkey, Spain, Germany, Italy, China, South Korea, Hungary and many other countries. In total, about 2,000 delegates and guests took part in the NPPES-2022 summit.
Participants shared their feedback after the events.
Fikret Özgümüş, Aka Su Teknolojleri CEO, Turkey: “AKA SU has extensive experience in implementing projects in Turkey and around the world, especially in thermal, gas, biogas, wind and hydro power plants. Relying on our experience, we set ourselves the goal of becoming the supplier for Turkey's first nuclear power plant and achieved it by winning a competitive tender for the manufacture and supply of tanks for cleaning and storage systems for chemicals for Akkuyu NPP construction. We are also fully responsible for the development of design and other accompanying documentation for the supply of our products. At this stage, the process of coordinating documents is underway, as a result of which we will start the production.”
Onur Bizimtuna, Main Clients Manager, Dalgakiran Kompressor, Turkey: “Not all industrial enterprises in Turkey are fully prepared to become suppliers to the nuclear industry. But we are gradually adapting to work according to the international and Russian standards. Meetings in the B2B format were very useful for us, and we pay close attention to this format of communication. At such meetings, we get detailed information on what issues we should focus on and how to prepare for the tender procedures in the best way.”
Oguz Sultanoglu, Quality Assurance Director, Mim Muhendislik, Turkey: “NPPES is an effective platform for us. We are establishing dialogue with many companies and finding mutual interests. During the pandemic, there was a certain decline in business activity, but now, thanks to the resumption of major forums and exhibitions, we have a great opportunity to strengthen interaction with potential partners. And most importantly, we got to know the principles of work and procurement activities of Rosatom State Corporation, which creates equal opportunities for companies to become suppliers of the Akkuyu NPP project.”
Ömer Solmaz, Mechanical Engineer, MOS Dovme Metal, Turkey: “During the presentations at the panel sessions, we received valuable information about the construction of nuclear power plants. Separately, I would like to emphasize the meetings in the B2B format. It is a great opportunity for us, potential suppliers, to get answers to our questions from qualified and competent specialists. In terms of the content, everything was top notch.”
Tarik Umit Pehlivan, TPM Robot Company representative: “I attended the panel discussions, where I learned a lot about nuclear energy, and talked with representatives of the companies presented at the exposition. We discussed opportunities for cooperation and joint participation in nuclear industry projects. I also visited the exhibition and took part in B2B meetings to find out how the procurement procedures for the Akkuyu NPP project are carried out. The information obtained will allow us to define priorities and prepare for the participation in tenders in the best way.”
