On May 24, ROSATOM State Corporation and the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission signed a Strategic document on Russian-French partnership in the peaceful uses of atomic energy within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.

In witness of Presidents of the Russian Federation and the French Republic Vladimir Putin and Emmanuel Macron the document was signed by Director General of ROSATOM Alexey Likhachev and Administrator General of the French Alternative Energies and Atomic Energy Commission François Jacq.

The strategic document is called for to give a new impetus to the Russian-French cooperation in the field of nuclear energy, as well as to provide a framework for developing cooperation in the area of energy efficiency and renewables.

Under the agreement, the parties plan to join their efforts to continue and strengthen scientific, technical and commercial cooperation in such areas as the development of energy efficiency and alternative energy sources, use of fast neutron reactors, engineering and equipment supplies for nuclear power plants, supply and processing of nuclear fuel, decommissioning of nuclear power facilities, development of energy storage systems. The parties also intend to support third countries in their efforts to reduce CO2 emissions through the use of nuclear power generation and renewable energy sources.

“Together with the French partners, we are ready to support countries that are seeking to reduce hydrocarbon emissions through the development of national nuclear energy, realizing that only through joint efforts can the problem of preventing global climate change be solved”, said Alexey Likhachev.
