21 October 2022, Istanbul, Turkey. – The 15th International Energy Congress and Exhibition Energy is Future (EIF-2022) took place in Istanbul. AKKUYU NUCLEAR, a subsidiary of Rosatom State Corporation, which implements the Akkuyu NPP construction project in the Republic of Turkey, became the main partner of the event.
EIF brought together key players of the Turkish energy industry as well as energy sector representatives from 52 countries of the world. Head of the Congress Organizing Committee, Energy Law Expert Çiğdem Dilek, Chief Executive Officer of the State Energy Generating Company EÜAŞ, Dr. İzzet Alagöz, Chairman of the Governing Council of the Turkish Confederation of Entrepreneurship and Business (TÜRKONFED) Suleyman Sönmez, Deputy Energy Sector Minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina Admir Softic, Regional Vice President and Director of the Regional Center Rosatom – Middle East and North Africa Alexandr Voronkov spoke at the EIF-2022 opening ceremony. Alexandr Voronkov expressed his appreciation to the Congress organizers and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of the Republic of Turkey for the provided opportunity to lead the professional dialogue of outstanding representatives of the energy industry.
"The Congress is held under the slogan to support the Sustainable Development Goals. In terms of the world economy turbulence and global consumption growth, the demand for energy sources being able to balance energy systems, minimize market instability and ensure commitments to reduce carbon dioxide emissions is more acute than ever. The nuclear energy being a reliable support, a catalyst for the economic and industrial sustainable development is responding to this request," the speaker pointed out.
Rosatom and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC representatives took part in the Congress business program. A separate panel session of the Congress was dedicated to the supply chain management when implementing NPP construction projects. Deputy Chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Authority of Turkey (NDK) Oğuz Can acted as moderator. Chief Executive Officer of the Nuclear Technical Support Organization (NÜTED) Yusuf Ceylan, Head of the NDK Equipment Manufacturing Inspection Group Yasin Çetin, specialist of the Nuclear Infrastructure Development Department of the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey Hakan Hatipoğlu and Director of Construction and Production Organization of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Denis Sezemin made presentations. The session started with a virtual tour to Novovoronezh NPP-2, a reference plant for Akkuyu NPP.
Congress participants saw online the main workshops of the nuclear power plant under operation with generation III+ VVER 1200 reactors.
Denis Sezemin told about the current status of the Akkuyu NPP project and paid attention to the equipment supplies for the first nuclear power plant in Turkey: "Turkish companies take a very active part in Akkuyu NPP project. They supply materials, equipment and services, perform various types of work. The majority of construction materials at the construction facilities are of Turkish production. Local manufacturers supply concrete mixtures, reinforcement bars, metalwork, waterproofing materials, pipes and cable products for the project needs. For the main NPP facilities – nuclear and turbine islands – Turkish manufacturers can supply ventilation, heat exchange and electrical equipment, pumps, pressure vessels and other equipment, subject to the availability of the required certificates."
Denis Sezemin also gave an interview to the central media outlets of Turkey and told on the construction of the Akkuyu NPP, nearest key events at the construction site, the contribution of the project to the social and economic development of Turkey and the region of the NPP location. Commercial Director of RENERA (a part of TVEL Fuel Company, Rosatom's industry integrator in electricity storage systems sector) Dmitry Turchin participated in the panel session "Energy storage from the grid to the end user" and made a presentation on the subject "Production of energy storage systems and technology transfer".
Alexey Golubev, Chief Executive Officer of Digital Platforms and Smart City Solutions as part of Rusatom Infrastructure Solutions, made a speech at a session dedicated to the Smart City concept. AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC stand was operating at the EIF-2022 exhibition site. Stand visitors were highly interested in getting acquainted with the mobile application "NPP with VVER-1200 technology" with augmented reality: the application gives the possibility to see an interactive 3D model of Akkuyu NPP with visualization of the main facilities and components of the nuclear power plant equipment and to get acquainted with NPP operation principles.
