On 17 September, on the sidelines of the 63rd IAEA General Conference in Vienna, ROSATOM and the Ministry of Energy and Mines of the Dominican Republic signed a Memorandum of cooperation in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy. 
ROSATOM Deputy Director General Nikolay Spassky signed the document from the Russian side and from the Dominican side it was signed by Lourdes Gisela Victoria-Kruse, Dominican Republic Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative of the Dominican Republic to international organizations in Vienna. 
The Memorandum is the first document signed by the two countries in the field of peaceful use of nuclear energy. It is creating the basis for cooperation in a wide range of areas, including the development of nuclear infrastructure of the Dominican Republic, elaboration of programs to raise public awareness of nuclear technologies, application of radioisotopes and radiation technologies in industry, agriculture and medicine. Joint working groups will be established to define mutually beneficial joint projects. As a next step, the parties to the memorandum will prepare a framework intergovernmental Agreement.
