International Women's Day celebrated at the Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant construction site

March 8, 2024, Büyükeceli, Mersin, Türkiye. – Events dedicated to the International Women's Day took place at the Akkuyu NPP construction site. Female employees of the project accepted flowers and congratulations from male colleagues

More than two thousand women are currently employed at the Akkuyu NPP construction site. They take active part in research and design activities, achieve outstanding professional heights and receive prestigious industry awards. AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC creates and constantly improves conditions for attracting women of various professional background to the nuclear industry and comprehensive professional development: engineers, lawyers, financiers, HR specialists and others.

In the lead-up to March 8, AKKUYU NUCLEAR invited representatives of Türkiye's top media outlets to the Akkuyu NPP construction site. AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Director for Construction and Production Organization Denis Sezemin conducted a site tour for the media. He told in detail about the current stage of construction, installation and commissioning works at the main construction areas, and also answered questions from journalists. During the visit media representatives took part in a meeting with employees of six different subdivisions of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC in the format of a press breakfast. During the conversation, the journalists raised the issues of gender balance in the nuclear industry and learned that women are engaged in almost all services of the plant under construction. The participants of the press breakfast shared inspiring stories about their career path in the nuclear industry, talked about the challenges and peculiarities in the profession.

Female employees of AKKUYU NUCLEAR have won prizes in the nuclear industry recognition program "Rosatom Person of the Year" over the years. Among them were young Turkish engineers who completed the training program for Akkuyu NPP operational personnel – AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC specialist in the chemical analysis of the first circuit Ciğdem Yılmaz and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC senior engineer of the turbine compartment Sevil Kutlu. When studying at St. Petersburg Peter the Great Polytechnic University in 2020, AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC specialist in the certification of RAW entered the top 100 fellows of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) under the program named after Maria Sklodowska-Curie and received the right to complete a one-year internship at the IAEA headquarters in Vienna (Austria). AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC leading legal adviser Naila Atmaca represented Türkiye in Russia and was trained under the "Woman-Leader" program of the presidential platform "Russia - a country of opportunities".
