A new canteen built with the financial support of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC began serving meals to the schoolchildren in Büyükeceli – the nearest settlement to the Akkuyu NPP construction site.
Gülnar District Governor Yunus Emre Bayraklı, Head of Gülnar District Education Department Hüseyin Kadim, and Managing Director for GR and International Cooperation of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Alexey Frolov, officially cut the red ribbon at the building opening ceremony.
Head of Gülnar District Education Department Hüseyin Kadim noted the following in his speech in front of the audience: "A beautiful stand-alone canteen building where the pupils will take meals in the nearest future has been built in the schoolyard thanks to financial support from AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC. Besides, we were able to solve one more important problem with the use of the allotted funds – to repair the sewage system of the school. On behalf of all residents of Gülnar I would like to express gratitude to AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC for the support provided by the company to our educational institutions".
Gülnar District Governor Yunus Emre Bayraklı stated the following: "The construction site of Akkuyu NPP is located near the settlement of Büyükeceli, but all people of Gülnar see the positive effect of the project implementation in our region. At present the canteen is built where meals for all elementary and secondary school pupils are to be arranged, the sewage facilities are refurbished, and even the school building roof is repaired. I would like to thank AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC for the support provided by the company to the educational institutions of our district".
Expert of the Regional Communication Department of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC Eyüp Lütfi Sarıcı stated the following in his speech to the event participants: "We congratulate the school administration and pupils on the canteen opening. I would like to address the young generation: a nuclear power plant is being built in our district according to the most advanced technologies.
Apart from stable power supply for more than 60 years, great opportunities are opened for us, first of all educational ones. We have high hopes that you will study diligently and apply your knowledge for the benefit of our motherland in the future". After the speeches of the official representatives and guests the pupils of the school recited poetry and showed dancing performance. The event was held with adherence to the epidemiological safety measures and social distancing rules.
AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC constantly implements charitable activities aimed at supporting of the NPP construction region. Last year, the company provided charity certificates to the Silifke State Hospital, the Family Medicine Center and the Büyükeceli school. On the occasion of the beginning of the school year, Gülnar District Education Department received a charity certificate in the amount of 372 thousand Turkish liras for various needs of Gülnar district schools – from the repair of classrooms to the purchase of sports equipment.
