Rosatom State Corporation and AKKUYU NUCLEAR took part in the Nuclear Power Plants V Expo and IX Summit (NPPES), which was held on 21-22 June in Istanbul, Türkiye. Rosatom acted as the main partner of the annual industry forum, Türkiye’s largest business platform in the area of nuclear technologies and industry; and took an active part in its business program. The representatives of Rosatom and AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC told the participants and guests of the event about the status of implementation of construction of the first nuclear power plant in Türkiye, and speakers of various Rosatom divisions presented new areas of cooperation with Turkish companies in the area of nuclear and non-nuclear technologies as part of the business program of the Summit.

The Director General and Chairman of the Board of Directors of AKKUYU NUCLEAR Anastasia Zoteeva said, while welcoming the participants of the forum: “The companies of the Akkuyu NPP project annually take part in the events of the NPPES Summit”. This is a communication platform for all the potential participants in the construction of Türkiye’s first nuclear power plant. It is very important for us to provide up-to-date information on the project to all the Turkish suppliers that are developing their expertise in the area of nuclear power. We are continuing to actively involve the representatives of various industries of Türkiye into the project and expand the horizon of business proposals of Rosatom State Corporation, which has been taking the lead in a number of applications of nuclear technologies for many decades”.

Anton Dedusenko, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of AKKUYU NUCLEAR JSC, spoke at the opening ceremony of NPPES-2023. “We highly value our partnership with the Republic of Türkiye and see huge potential for its development. Rosatom is always open to discussing new avenues of cooperation with the Turkish side. Of course, this can include new projects for large-capacity NPP construction, but it goes far beyond that. We are ready to offer our potential Turkish customers products and solutions in the fields ranging from water treatment to research reactors and nuclear medicine”, – said the speaker.

This year, for the first time Rosatom presented a comprehensive proposal at the NPPES, which includes the products of the companies of the State Corporation in the nuclear and non-nuclear sectors for the Turkish market. Faraç Alemdar, Business Development and Sales Director at RAOS Energy (subsidiary of JSC Rusatom Energy International (REIN) that acts as an industry integrator and promotes the products of Rosatom in Türkiye) presented a review report at the special session. This year, at the first power unit of Akkuyu NPP, we have to complete general construction installation activities and ensure the readiness of power distribution facilities, coastal facilities, and auxiliary buildings necessary to start commissioning operations. The Akkuyu NPP project is creating a new industry in Türkiye. The country is acquiring a more stable energy system, gaining an opportunity to develop competencies in the nuclear power industry and to subsequently enter international markets for its manufacturers. The Akkuyu NPP project already contributes to economic growth, development of infrastructure, local production, scientific and educational spheres, and other industries and will continue to stimulate the development of Türkiye for decades to come, – Sezemin said. He also spoke about the positive dynamics in the implementation of the Akkuyu NPP localization program. “Over the past year, the total amount of contracts with the Turkish companies for the supply of equipment, materials and services for the project has increased by more than USD 1 billion, from USD 3.2 to USD 4.3 billion”, – the speaker emphasized.
